Petroleum resin due to raw materials and polymerization process on the reasons for the existence of double bond or aromatic structure, and contains halides, hydrogen sulfide and colloid, so the difficulty of hydrogenation of petroleum resin is relatively large; and catalyst activity, selectivity and Stability is directly related to the performance of the product. According to the different production processes, the use of the catalyst system is mainly precious metals and non-precious metals two categories.

The hydrogenation process of the kettle generally adopts the powdery Ni catalyst, while the fixed bed hydrogenation process usually adopts the supported palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt) and Ni as the catalyst. Among them, Ni-based hydrogenation catalyst (low price, high activity and strong ability of anti-sulfur) can make the oil contained sulfur (S), nitrogen (N) and oxygen (O) and other miscellaneous organic compounds hydrogenation.
