C5 raw materials of the various components of the molecular structure of the resin will have a significant impact, in which raw materials in the cyclopentadiene (CPD) content is the main influencing factors. When the CPD content of raw materials is high, the polymerization of petroleum resin hue deep, need to be processed before the polymerization of raw materials. Since CPD is prone to thermal polymerization, the resulting dicyclopentadiene (DCPD) has a higher boiling point, which can be removed by distillation, and the thermal distillation of the raw material is carried out to remove part of the cyclopentadiene.

CPD contains two conjugated double bonds and active methylene groups, at room temperature can spontaneously polymerization into DCPD. At the same time, DCPD in the heat, but also easy to depolymerization for the CPD monomer. At high temperature, the depolymerization is greater than the dimerization; and at low temperatures, the dimerization is greater than the depolymerization. The transfer temperature is 110 ~ 120 ¡æ. DCPD thermal polymerization process includes a series of ethylene-type double bond addition reaction. By controlling the polymerization temperature and polymerization time, DCPD petroleum resins with different relative molecular masses can be prepared. It can be seen from the dimerization kinetics of CPD that the unpolymerized DCPD is partially pyrolyzed into CPD during the reaction. Therefore, how to inhibit the content of CPD in the polymerization process to improve the quality of the product and reduce the content of the crosslinked product is a problem to be considered.
